Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) positively contribute to contemporary workplaces; however, small engineering firms can face challenges in addressing DEI with limited staffing. ECO focuses on DEI in two areas: internal business operations and in collaboration with project teams and our clients. Internally, we conducted an organizational equity assessment to identify ways to formalize DEI efforts. Outside our internal efforts, our consultancy's focus on DEI is centered on public engagement, including a data-informed approach, going where people are, and targeted universalism. Incorporating DEI into our practices has helped us make procedural and structural improvements that lead to better engineering solutions.
